About Kakukk Vendéglő
Az 1900-as évek elején megnyitott Kakukk Vendéglő már jóval a rendszerváltás előtt is virágkorát élte. Hangulatos, igazi békebeli gebines vendéglőként szolgált az újpesti kertváros lakóinak nagy örömére. Kerthelyisége a meleg nyári hónapokban rendkívül népszerű volt a környékbeliek körében. A 90-es években a melegkonyha jó pár évig nem üzemelt, inkább presszó-söröző jelleggel működött, míg az ezredforduló környékén ismét fantáziát látott valaki a hely felélesztésében, és visszaállította kisvendéglői múltját. A mostani tulajdonosok is arra törekszenek, hogy családi vállalkozásként a méltán közkedvelt Vendéglő továbbra is hű maradhasson több, mint száz éves hagyományaihoz és vendéglátó múltjához.

A great place if you want to try traditional Hungarian cuisine in an authentic and relaxed atmosphere. I had catfish in paprika sauce with túrós csusza (fresh cottage cheese pasta) and it was absolutely excellent. Rich paprika flavor, perfectly cooked fish and a very generous portion. The combination of the creamy pasta with the paprika sauce was fantastic. The meal paired perfectly with a Köstritzer dark beer, which they serve here as well. The atmosphere is cozy, the service friendly, and overall the restaurant offers great value for money. Definitely a place I would happily visit again when in Budapest.

Straight forward Traditional Hungarian Restaurant with a good range of palinka and wines. My dish was a little salty but well presented.

Place without any special atmosphere, but nice and clean. The staff (one of them) did not speak English well so maybe that was the reason why they gave me some normal goulash soup without any bean even I ordered "hungarian bean goulash soup" from the menu. My boyfriend had duck leg with cabbage and he was happy with that. Anyway - the food was very tasty and good.

We were invited to this place by our close friends and it ticked all the boxes. The place is a bit out of the main city but worth the trip as we were able to get a bus direct there and back from Keleti plvd, to enjoy quality Hungerian traditional food with a classic ambience that suited. I would recommend this place to anyone who is interested in such versatile food and not fussed about location.

Far from the busy tourist trails, far away from the dirty and very noisy centre of Budapest where it is hard to meet a single Hungarian, my girlfriend and I went to an unassuming restaurant in a quiet part of the Újpest district, and it was an excellent decision. Simple, homemade Hungarian food at reasonable prices and very friendly service, made it definitely a place we can recommend to anyone who is tired of the touristy Disneyland in the city centre.
