The building's architectural harmony and richly decorated interior ( it is too much gold, in my opinion, but it really shines) are impressive. The opera hall has excellent acoustics and bright stage lighting. The performers had good vocal talent, and the fresh costumes enhance the overall artistic experience. All together forms cohesive and memorable picture. Definitely worth a visit.

I expected it to be beautiful, but honestly, it surprised me a lot more than I thought it would. The interior is gorgeous, gold, velvet, painted ceilings, balconies, chandeliers… the kind of place where you keep looking up and almost forget to walk. And I’ll say it: I liked it more than the Vienna Opera. It felt warmer, more elegant, and somehow more special. The best plan is obviously to see a performance, but if nothing is scheduled on the day you visit, do the tour. It’s not one of those boring “follow the guide and pretend to listen” situations, they even perform two live arias, which completely changes the experience and gives you a little taste of what the place feels like during a real show. So yes, take the photo outside… but please don’t stop there. The real wow is inside.

Wow! And absolutely magnificent experience. Thanks to Tauck tours we had a short and beautiful private show! If I come back I can assure you I will be buying tickets to the Opera.

We visited the Hungarian State Opera House and were very impressed. The building is stunning both inside and out. The auditorium is not particularly large, which creates a pleasant and intimate atmosphere. The seats were comfortable, although I personally found it a little warm inside. However, this did not diminish the overall experience. The restrooms were clean, and there were no queues. The beauty and elegance of the interior undoubtedly enhance the experience, making the visit feel truly special and ceremonial. Despite the large number of tourists, most visitors were dressed elegantly, which added to the atmosphere. The staff spoke English well and were friendly, helpful, and happy to assist whenever needed. This is an excellent place to visit and a wonderful way to enrich your overall impression of Budapest. Highly recommended.

A visit to the beautiful Hungarian State Opera House was easily one of the highlights of our time in Budapest. Sitting gracefully along Andrássy Avenue, the building itself is stunning and instantly catches your eye. The detailed façade, statues, and grand entrance already give you a sense that you’re about to step into something truly special. Once inside, the place is simply breathtaking. The grand staircases, beautiful chandeliers, intricate ceilings, and gold-lined balconies make you want to pause and admire every little detail. It has that old-world charm that instantly transports you to another era. What makes the visit even more interesting is the rich history behind the opera house. Knowing that this venue has hosted some incredible performances over the years adds a deeper appreciation to the experience. Even if you’re not planning to watch a show, taking a guided tour is totally worth it. It gives you a great glimpse into the architecture, history, and stories of the building. If you enjoy architecture, music, or simply exploring beautiful historic places, this is definitely a must-visit when in Budapest.
