cool atmosphere, very interesting place, lots of things happening around with various writings and pictures on the walls, unusual furniture and colorful lights. you could spend hours just sitting there and looking around ^ ^ tasty drinks, quickly prepared. if you find a spot to sit, better stick to it because it will be quickly taken if you leave it. very loud from the music and people, many people smoke there, but there are no-smoking spots. i recommend visiting after dark, the lights in there and fluorescent paint look exceptional!

Very interesting place that offers diverse rooms where you can grab a drink or tag a wall. We were lucky to be there when a guy was doing a live performance and it was absolutely amazing. Definitely must-see when you are in Budapest. It might be a good idea to come earlier in a day to avoid queues.

Visiting Szimpla Kert was easily one of the coolest nightlife experiences I had during my trip. It really sets the standard for ruin bars, with every room feeling like a totally different universe packed with vintage junk, artwork, and unique lighting. Even though it is super popular with tourists, the energy inside is unmatched. Despite how busy it gets, getting a drink is surprisingly easy because there are several different bar counters spread throughout the space. Drink prices are fair for the location, generally sitting between 2,000 and 6,000 HUF depending on whether you are getting local draft beers, craft options, or mixed drinks. As you can see in the photos I uploaded, the main bar areas have a great selection on tap with big chalkboard menus listing everything clearly. The layout is huge, featuring an open-air central courtyard surrounded by two floors of rooms, nooks, and balcony seating. During the daytime, it feels like a relaxed open patio, but at night the venue transforms into a buzzing maze lit up with neon signs, hanging disco balls, and quirky projections. The atmosphere is truly magical and unlike anything else. Find yourself a cozy spot, sit back, and simply enjoy the experience. There is live music from time to time, which adds even more charm to this unique venue. Every corner is so interesting and full of character that you’ll probably want to take photos of everything. The street food options are also delicious. It’s a fantastic place to relax, soak in the atmosphere, and spend a memorable evening.

I went to Szimpla Kert and yeah, it totally lives up to the hype—it’s one of those places that actually feels as cool as people say. The whole ruin bar concept is just wild if you’ve never seen it before. It’s basically this old, slightly crumbling building turned into a bar, but in a really creative way. Every room feels different—random furniture, graffiti, weird decorations hanging from the ceiling… it’s kind of chaotic, but in a fun way. I went pretty early, so it wasn’t packed yet, which honestly made it even better. I could actually walk around, check out all the different rooms, and take it all in without constantly bumping into people. I can imagine it gets super crowded later at night though. Drinks are reasonably priced for such a famous spot, and the atmosphere is what you’re really there for anyway. It’s a great place to start the night or just hang out and soak in something a bit different. Overall, yeah—it’s touristy, but still feels unique enough to be worth it. If you’re in Budapest and want to experience the ruin bar scene, this is definitely the place to go at least once.
