In Putinist-fascist Hungary, where state propaganda saturates the media and independent thought is increasingly marginalized, one of the last refuges of critical thinking and cultural resistance remains the public library. These modest, often overlooked spaces—dusty shelves nestled between outdated furniture and quietly humming fluorescent lights—have become sanctuaries of intellectual freedom. While the government seeks to rewrite history, silence dissent, and enforce ideological conformity, libraries still offer access to banned authors, uncensored literature, and historical truths. But this fragile autonomy cannot be taken for granted. The regime’s hostility toward open inquiry, pluralism, and nuance makes libraries natural targets. The campaign has already begun in subtle ways: restrictions on acquisitions, political scrutiny of reading materials, and purges of anything deemed “deviant,” “gender-ideological,” or “foreign-influenced.” Librarians find themselves walking a narrow path between serving the public and avoiding the wrath of culture warriors loyal to Orbán’s illiberal state. It’s not hard to imagine where this road leads. History offers chilling precedents—from Nazi

A kisfiunkkal járunk oda, minden alkalommal kedves, segítőkész ott dolgozókkal találkozunk. A kínálat szuper, az elrendezés barátságos, hívogató.

Great library. The yearly subscription fee is less than 1 euro to read and spend time as much as you like studying. The books are mostly in Hungarian but there's in other languages. The staff are really friendly as well

Kedves, hozzáértő, segítőkész személyzet. Van zárható szerény, helybenolvasái lehetőség, azámítógépes keresés. Új könyvel előtérben, jól látható helyen. Rendbentartott, tiszta tér. Gyereknek, gyereksarok. Kicsit sokat szükséges gyalogolni a metrómegállótól, pl. Nyugati tér, Arany Jántos utcai de egyáltalán nem vészes :)
