About ELTE TTK Természetrajzi Múzeum

Note: Appointment only, except for select Saturdays every month (according to their website). We went and found out the hard way that it was closed. Shame, It looked really cool from the outside.

Very nice museum. It is quite small, but could easily spend a whole day here. University faculty are very helpful, museum is very well curated and the museum itself is a work of art. Interesting historical collections here also.

This definitely ranks among the best natural history museums I’ve visited. The zoological collection is not the largest, but it is so diverse and well curated. A special mention goes to the two welcoming and knowledgeable staff members who introduced us to the zoological and mineral collections, making the visit even more enjoyable. Definitely a must if you're visiting Budapest and have genuine interest in the natural world!

I spent a few hours at the Eötvös Museum of Natural History and honestly, it surprised me in the best way. The whole place has this quiet, academic charm you can feel the history of the university in every corner. The exhibits are well organized and easy to follow, from minerals and fossils to wildlife displays that make you slow down and actually look. It’s not a huge museum, but that’s part of the experience. You’re not rushed, you’re not overwhelmed, and you get to appreciate each section properly. If you’re into science, nature, or just curious by default, this place is worth a visit. And if you like taking photos, there’s plenty to capture details, textures, little moments you don’t notice in bigger museums.

This is a place that everyone has to visit at least once in their lives. The mineral and rock collection is one of the largest in middle Europe and has beautiful pieces from Hungary and from abroad as well. The room in which the collection is located is furnished with antique pieces and is a sight to see on it's own. The museum employees can give you an interesting tour to the realm of minerals, I can only recommend it. The biology museum is also very interesting with a lot of exciting equipment and specimens.
