About Gerlóczy Kávéház

A hidden and romantic gem of Budapest that takes us a little bit back in time with its beautiful historic facade and exceptional interior, along with the perfect mix of its local, traditional and contemporary kitchen.

The eclectic building of Gerlóczy Kávéház and Boutique Hotel was built between 1889-1891 on a tiny and quite corner of the city centre, the Kamermayer Square.

The 19-room Hotel and Café preserves the original style and atmosphere of the over 100 years old building. With the last protected elm tree of the city in front, this place made history and became an iconic meeting point for the café scene of Budapest.

We have been coming to Gerloczy Cafe since 2008 and have dined there well more than a dozen times. The food is always delicious, the service is excellent and it's on a lovely quiet corner. They also have an excellent list of desserts.

By far the best experience we’ve had during our week in Budapest. Bence (sommellier) really went out of his way to help us with the wines and teach us about the local vinology. The food is very decent and locally sourced. Live piano music and large smiles (which is very uncommon in Budapest) will make your night! Bence, thank you very much for taking our evening to the next level.

We arrived late from Vienna and decided to try this restaurant near our hotel—what a delightful find. The two dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious, and the rest of the menu looked so interesting that we already know we’ll be back to try more next time. The wine was great, service was warm and attentive, and the cozy atmosphere made the whole experience even better. Such a wonderful first meal in Budapest—we’ll definitely be coming back.

It was first night in Budapest for me and my wife, and after the Danube night cruise we came here for dinner. We were late and the kitchen was about to close, so we had to hurry and ordered whatever we found first in the menu. We went for French beef tartare and duck leg confit. The food was tasty. We enjoyed it. We also had orange mango mimosa. The atmosphere was nice with live keyboard playing. The service was okay. We could have enjoyed more had we had more time. We recommend this place.

Had the pleasure of dining at Gerlóczy, a charming Parisian-style café restaurant. We were especially lucky that they were open on Christmas, and even luckier to experience what they have to offer. We ordered the veal and the corn-fed chicken, and both dishes were exceptional. The atmosphere was wonderful and warm, enhanced by tasteful live piano music throughout our meal. Service was professional and attentive, maintaining a high standard from start to finish. Highly recommended.
