Very big selection of Hungarian cakes and the staff was friendly too. I had a Dobos here and it was very delicious!

Hamdi Cukrászda is so far my favorite cakeshop in Budapest! They have wide selections of cakes and most of them are traditional Hungarian cakes! 🍰 They put reasonable price too, it’s rather cheap compared to other cakeshop in Budapest, and the cake slice is big here. As a foreigner, it’s like finding a hidden treasure! Several times I went to the other outlet in Erzsébet krt., and yesterday I gave it a try at this outlet in Jókai út, because it’s closer to our house. This place is much smaller, only has two chairs and small table in the corner, but it’s still comfortable.

The waitress gave us a biscuit for free she was very kind. The pastry was great and the coffee was the only good one we had in budapest.

Their cake is very delicious, but they served the coffee cold, and the salesgirl was neither diligent nor helpful. Update: During my second visit, the quality of the cakes had declined. They were dry and overly sweet. The cashier girl remained emotionless and chose our snack time for a loud cleaning procedure, which spoiled our enjoyment of the desserts. At this point, I wouldn't recommend coming here.

This is the sort of unassuming gem of a place that every traveler hopes to stumble across. I did, a few years ago while staying at an AirBnB and gained some pounds as a result. It feels like a fixture of the neighborhood, a bit worn with every space used. Two tiny chairs inside for a quick coffee. A cold case for fancy cakes like Dobos Torta, etc., which can be made to order. There’s also 8 or 10 fagyi choices squeezed in next to that and a nice bakery case next to that, which is why you will go here. If you get one thing, get the flodni; one of the better ones in town, but I’ve never had a bad pastry here. I will say though that the ice cream looked a bit tired the last time I went, but that’s unusual. Everything else is fresh. Cash only.
