The James Joyce Bar was one of the highlights of our time in Budapest! It has a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere, great drinks, and the genuine warmth you hope to find in a true Irish pub. A special thank-you to the owner, Barry John Gallagher, whose friendliness and hospitality made our visit especially memorable. He takes the time to make guests feel at home, whether they are locals or visitors to Budapest. You can tell how much heart he has put into creating such a lively, authentic, and comfortable place. If you’re looking for good conversation, a fun atmosphere, and true Irish hospitality in Budapest, make sure you visit the James Joyce Bar. We will absolutely be back!

Visited this small Irish bar for the World Cup games and it’s everything you expect. Good range of beers and snacks and the staff are really nice. Seating is a premium but it makes the atmosphere cosy and welcoming.

By far the best Irish pub I have found in Budapest after 10 years of living here. Guinness price in 2026 is £7

It was a cold and rainy night, and all I wanted was a proper pint of Guinness to warm the soul. Stumbling into this pub turned out to be exactly what I needed. I was greeted with a friendly smile—always a promising start—and soon found myself settling in with a perfectly poured Guinness in hand. The interior had all the charm you’d expect from a homely Irish pub: walls adorned with quirky memorabilia, soft lighting, and the constant hum of laughter floating through the room. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and instantly comforting, the kind of place where time seems to slow down just enough for you to appreciate it. One pint turned into a few more (as it tends to in good company), and eventually I ordered some bar snacks. The chicken wings were standard fare, but just what I needed to soak up the pints. TV screens showed football games in the background, adding a lively buzz without being overwhelming. All in all, it was exactly the kind of spot you hope to find on a dreary evening—welcoming, atmospheric, and effortlessly enjoyable. I’ll definitely be returning in the not-too-distant future.

Great spot to grab a bite to eat, enjoy a pint of cider or a Guinness, and watch some sports. The Guinness tastes just like it does in Dublin and the hospitality you’ll experience from Barry and Brian at the bar transports you back to Ireland. Nick is doing a great job with the pub food. Do yourself a favor and order the loaded nachos. They’re piled high with some tasty pulled chicken that’s finger licking good. The bangers and mash is also fantastic for a delicious and filling meal. We came in on a Saturday afternoon and had a great time. Definitely a spot we’re making a regular.
