About Ludwig Múzeum
Ludwig Museum - Museum of Contemporary Art collects and displays masterworks of modern and contemporary art. Its collection contains valuable pieces of American pop art (Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg etc.). Yet focusing on Eastern and Central European art, it also puts a special emphasis on presenting the Hungarian art of the 60's to recent days in an international context. Besides, temporary exhibitions showcase leading artists of the international scene as well as the best-known Hungarian masters. Be sure to explore the Museum's colourful place which is indeed a contemporary work of art as well.

3 genious Picassos and lots of other interesting works which help to understand the past 5 decades of postwar eastern europe. 2 temporary exhibitions: "Dystopia" as a theme is not really my thing, lots of violence and depression going on and 98% male points of view. But I liked a lot 4 pieces in the other exhibition, by Ivana Šàtekovà: have a look at her works! such a witty, ironic and refined mix of material, content and titles!

I absolutely loved my visit to the Ludwig Museum. As someone who enjoys contemporary art, this was one of the highlights of my time in Budapest. The current exhibitions were thoughtful, engaging, and intellectually stimulating. Black Mirror: The Long Shadow of the Future offered a fascinating exploration of contemporary anxieties and possible futures, while BING BANG: Expanding Collection Horizons showcased the incredible breadth and evolution of the museum’s collection in a way that felt both accessible and inspiring. One of the most meaningful parts of my visit was seeing In the End There Will Be No End: Neo-Avant-Garde and Contemporary Artists from Art Fond Collection, Bratislava. I had just arrived from Bratislava the day before, so encountering Slovak artists in Budapest created an unexpected sense of continuity and connection across my travels. It added another layer of appreciation for the rich artistic dialogue within Central Europe. If you enjoy art that challenges assumptions, invites reflection, and sparks conversation, don’t miss this museum. I left inspired, thinking about many of the works long after I walked out the door.

This museum is amazing! The collection and exhibitions are rich. Maybe you wouldn't lile morbide art at the current exhibition like me, but the story that it tells is wunderbar, you can learn much more about Hungarians, Slovaks and Czechs here then by speaking to them. All praise to the curators for all 3 exhibitions and the drawings wall 👏

This review is for the café area: I was genuinely surprised by the desserts. The balance between sweetness, texture, and flavor is very well achieved, showing real attention to detail rather than lazy sugar overload. The coffee is of good quality and pairs nicely with the desserts, and the service is very kind and welcoming. I especially recommend the chocolate and red berry cake, which has a crunchy base that adds a great contrast and elevates the whole experience. A very pleasant place to end a meal.
