Great museum. For those traveling and staying in Budapest I would recommend planning on 6 hours round trip. The outside portion opens at 9AM and the inside museums open at 10AM. The H5 is 40 minutes approximately each way, so the museum is about 4 hours if they have the temporary exhibit open. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train stop but make sure you leave extra time when you are leaving to get across the main road and then the train tracks as the return side is on the far side of station. If you are going I'd also recommend getting a big breakfast before and checking the weather to make sure you are prepared for being outside for about 1.5-2 hours if you walk around and see everything. On weekdays it is definitely not busy but if you arrive at 9 or 10 there maybe be a field trip group that you have to wait on for entry and that can take some more time.

Probably the most intriguing and amazing thing I did on this trip. This is an active excavation and is open to the public. It was incredible to walk Roman roads. Highly recommend. I spent about 3 hours here walking roughly 2 miles but I meandered.

Very cool to walk through the extensive excavated ruins of the Roman city of Aquincum. There are some English signs but many of the signs are Hungarian only, so it's recommended for tourists to have a good translation app. I'd also recommend visiting the museum before walking around the grounds, as the museum provides good background on the site. The day we went there were live re-enactments of different "barbarian" cultures. Those re-enactments were in Hungarian only, but it was still interesting to see. The site is very accessible by public transportation.

Excellent, very well maintained, historical/educational site. Easy, pleasant trip from downtown Budapest even if you use mass transportation. (Actually, these days it's highly recommended to use mass transportation over cars in Budapest.) Most of the ancient roman remains are in surprisingly good shape. Well organized, the info system is good enough. Allow yourself at least 3-4 hours to properly explore the area. Well worth it. After your visit this section of Budapest has great selection of restaurants. Have fun.

If you love Roman ruins like I do, then this is a great place. The remains are only several feet high, but I enjoy imagining what could have been.
