About Bajor Gizi Színészmúzeum

A Bajor Gizi Színészmúzeum 1952-ben Gobbi Hilda kezdeményezésére alakult, ma az Országos Színháztörténeti Múzeum és Intézet kiállítóhelye. Az eredetileg földszintes neobarokk házat Beyer Rudolf, Bajor Gizi fivére vásárolta meg 1928-ban, a művésznő alakíttatta át nagystílű villává Országh Béla építészmérnök terve alapján. Bajor Gizi 1933 elején költözött ide, majd harmadik férjével, Germán Tibor fül- és gégeorvossal osztotta meg emeleti lakrészét. Bajor Giziék otthona csakhamar a budapesti művészvilág kedvelt találkozóhelyévé vált. A szalonból a második világháború legsötétebb korszakában menedékház lett. Itt élte át a vészkorszakot Germán Tibor, Budapest ostromát Dióssy Antal, Nagyajtay Teréz és Tamási Áron.

What a gorgeous museum to visit! The house, garden, and furnishings are exquisite. The upstairs gallery has a detailed audio guide in Hungarian and English, which gives many details about the house, the actor who lived in it, theatre culture in Hungary, and more! There is so much to explore and a lot of history in these walls. The downstairs exhibition is only available in Hungarian, but the staff was very nice and actually gave me a bit of a tour to explain everything. I had a delightful morning in this museum!

The place is magical, as you emotionally connect to the great Hungarian stage artists, dancers and singers. Old photos and other documents bring back memories of great performances. I did spend a lovely afternoon exploring the Bajor Gizi Színész múzeum in Budapest XII. Kerület. ♥️🎭📽️ The Ladies looking after the villa & exhibitions at the entry hall been lovely too 💐

We visited the actor museum as part of the Budapest art week 2019 where a special Chekhov part could be seen how his plays formed the Hungarian theaters and the most nominated plays from the century were all presented from the director’s perspective. Can learn so much about these great artists. Well built up, very comprehensive. The museum itself is in the villa what used to be the Bajor Family ‘s house where actors came together when they were not playing. The Villa itself has a large garden with benches outside and some sculptures. Only Hungarian scripts are written so be sure to have someone to translate!

It's one of the best museums in Budapest. The whole atmosphere is gorgeous. The staff is very friendly and the exhibitons are really cool especially their Chekhov exhibition.
