A real taste of Italy and an exceptional Madagascar vanilla ice cream! Gelateria Pomo d'Oro is a lovely artisanal Italian gelateria and pastry shop, located just a stone's throw from Szabadság tér (Liberty Square). There're a few tables right in front of the shop, comfortably sheltered under an awning a perfect spot to enjoy your ice cream. Even the tiny restroom has its own charm, beautifully tiled with Italian-style Sicilian/Napolitan tiles. The wide variety of flavors immediately caught my attention, but what really intrigued me was the Madagascar vanilla. As a Malagasy myself, I was particularly curious to see whether it would live up to its name. My verdict is clear: this is genuine Madagascar vanilla ice cream! The authentic fragrance and exceptional taste of Madagascar vanilla are unmistakable. You can even see the beautiful vanilla seeds throughout the ice cream. A small word of caution: unfortunately, some dishonest ice cream makers finely grind leftover pieces of vanilla pods and mix them into the ice cream to give the impression that it contains real vanilla seeds. There were many flavours and all of them were very tasty. Definitely recommend !

We loved it the first time we went, but the last few times they haven’t had regular chocolate—only zero-sugar or dairy-free options. There are a few classic flavors every gelateria should have, and a good, creamy and rich classic chocolate gelato is definitely one of them. If regular chocolate is no longer going to be on the menu, we’ll have to find a new gelato spot.

On 10/04/26, both the male and female staff working that day were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Thanks to them, I’ll be leaving Budapest with really great memories. Truly appreciated! The ice cream was also amazing — you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. Super delicious, highly recommend it.
