Was wandering Budapest and on way to dinner and took a chance on popping into Gepárd és Űrhajó Borbár. I think it loosely translates to “Cheetah & Spaceship Wine Bar”, which already tells you you’re not walking into a beige establishment. The space is quirky, with eclectic art and décor. It was mostly full and had a relaxed vibe. It has a good wine list and it felt nice to sit here and debrief about the day before our dinner. We had no plan, but ended up trying four of the wines. We opened with the Egri Csillag “Astrum”, good floral and mineral notes. A fairly fresh, modern white blend that was easy to drink. The Eger Rosé from Bolyki, nice cranberry-brightness, dry, and stony. It’s a wine purpose built for relaxed conversation. The “Issy” Pinot Noir from Badacsony near Lake Balaton was yummy, nice sour cherry elegance with faint smoky and mineral qualities that I enjoyed. The Bikavér Superior “Alpha” brought some nice spice, sour cherry - all four wines were good. Always a win. It was a nice surprise to find this place. We felt relaxed, there was no rush. It was nice to enjoy the gentle hum of conversations, laughter and more than a few “Egészségedre”. The value was outsta

Well worth the visit. The owner is welcoming and helpful, and serves good wine by the glass and bottle, including Hungarian and international wines, all at very reasonable prices. They offer small plates of simple food (ham, cheese, olives, chorizo etc) which perfectly complement the wines. A great place to relax as a couple or in a small group. Unfortunately we didn't find it until our last night otherwise we would have returned. If we lived in Budapest we would be here most evenings. And the dog is the perfect addition.

Looks nice enough, but couldn't get in. The dog was the only one home... UPDATE: Came back later and they were open. Delicious wine, ham, cheese and rilettes. Maybe a note in the door saying "back at 5pm" or similar would be helpful in future ;)

Such a lovely wine bar run by the guy with the sweetest dog ever. Highly recommend! Just be aware, it has only cheese and ham plates. Not a proper dinner menu
