A very small and simple museum. Unfortunately, the lady at reception was quite unfriendly — not even a simple “hello” in English. I wanted to ask her something about the student discount, but she didn’t speak a single word of English, which made communication quite difficult. Luckily, the entrance fee is quite cheap. Inside, you can see a train and a small exhibition about the history of Hungarian railways. It’s a quick visit and, personally, I wouldn’t consider it a must-see.

Discover the history of competition between London and Budapest, whose underground was the first one to open 😀 Unfortunately there was no guide , only read and see the exhibitions

In 1896, just 33 years afterLondon pioneered underground city commuter railways, Budapest became the first European continental city to build one. To find out how, and what happened next, you need the Underground Railway Museum, tucked away behind the ticket office at Deak Ferenc Ter Metro station. Original plans and documents are supplemented by colorised photos, art, media and contemporary objects. The exhibition includes three historic train carriages in a period tunnel, and the displays also explain trolleybuses, trams and even horse-drawn carriages. It's concise - it will take you 30-60 minutes. It's cheap - just 1000 HUF for an adult ticket. And they do take cards, as well as cash.

Great museum in the city centre and its down behind a ticket office at the Deák Ferenc Metro Station. Has three historic Underground Trains and various display stands showcasing the history of the Budapest Underground/Metro from 1896. Its 1000 HUF entry, cash only- they don't offer card payments and they do sell souvenirs as well. Well worth a visit and its a great way of adding another attraction on short trips and it is easy access.

Worth a quick stop if you're in the area. It’s interesting learning about the history of the Budapest railway, and they pack a surprising amount of info into a small space. You could spend ages reading everything, but realistically you’re in and out in 10–15 minutes. For a few quid, it’s not a bad way to pass a bit of time. A heads up - it’s cash only.
