A rather poetic memorial, with the half submerged classical façade creating the impression of a theatre quite literally disappearing into history. It commemorates Budapest’s former National Theatre, demolished in 1965, and the deliberately theatrical design feels especially appropriate for what it represents. The reflecting pool and quieter setting give it a surprisingly contemplative atmosphere, and it is far more interesting once one understands the symbolism behind it. A small but unusually thoughtful detail within the grounds of the present National Theatre.

Very beautiful, although we got caught up in the rain, I feel like it made for a much more atmospheric experience actually. The monument is stunning and we got to learn about the two actors whose statues are here as well. ☺️

It was so beautiful, the museum is closed right now but the attractions did not disappoint. Truly breathtaking!

This scenic spot serves as a memorial for the old theater, preserving culture in a beautiful and calm place. Easy to access, would recommend visiting this place!

The Memorial of the Old National Theatre is a nice, peaceful spot with an interesting atmosphere by the river. We visited on Christmas and it was very quiet with few people, which was a plus for a calm walk and photos. That said, it’s not a must-see or top priority compared to Budapest’s main landmarks — more of a “if you’re nearby” stop.
