A splendid piece of nineteenth century engineering and still one of Budapest’s most elegant landmarks. Opened in 1849, it was the first permanent bridge to connect Buda and Pest, which gives it rather more significance than its familiar postcard appearance suggests. The stone lions and sweeping chains are impressive up close, while the views towards Parliament and Buda Castle are particularly fine. It is especially atmospheric after dark, when the illumination and reflections on the Danube give the whole crossing a wonderfully grand character.

Formidable Bridge guarded by lions. Prestige condition. Great view over the river to Parliament and across to the other side at Castle Hill. Looked great Illuminated at night. Tunnel at the end of the bridge in the Buda side also impressive.

Szechenyi Chain Bridge is an iconic structure in Budapest. It was opened in 1849, which was the first permanent bridge on the Danube river connecting Buda and Pest. The iron chains and majestic stone lions on the bridge are very impressive. Walking over it in the day or in the evening with lights, the views of the majestic buildings around it are spectacular, especially the Parliament and Castle Hill. The bridge looks magnificent from the top level of the castle hill.

Széchenyi Chain Bridge is the first iconic landmark we encountered after arriving in Budapest. The beautiful 19th-century structure blends well with other landmarks on both sides of the river, composing countless nice pictures. The lions on both sides of the bridge are gorgeous. Night views from the river cruise are stunning.

Opened in 1849, it was the first permanent stone bridge to connect the distinct cities of Buda and Pest, historic ally unifying the Hungarian capital.
