About Gettó Gulyás
A Gettó Gulyás a budapesti bulinegyed szívében a klasszikus magyar ízek helye.

Very busy restaurant, which is usually a good sign. Don’t arrive early, though, as you’ll simply be asked to wait until your reservation time. Inside, there are virtually no soft furnishings, so the place is very noisy—not exactly ideal for a relaxed dinner. We ordered the Hungarian goulash soup, mixed pickles, trout and venison stew, along with a couple of the by-the-glass red wines. What can I say? The pickles and wine were easily the highlights of the meal. Unfortunately, the rest didn’t quite live up to expectations. Considering the price and the overwhelmingly positive reviews, this was very disappointing. 😞 Perhaps we simply chose the wrong dishes, but at these prices, you’d expect more from the kitchen. Can't recommend sorry to say.

The food is absolutely incredible! You will not be disappointed. The tenderloin is easily the best thing on the menu. The wait staff are also terrific. The only reason this gets 4/5 stars is because they really made us wait a long time for both our starters and mains and it seemed other tables also had this issue. Would still go again though!

⚖️ Great value and atmosphere, but the execution of the veal stew fell a bit short of expectations. 📍Location & Atmosphere: Perfectly located in Budapest’s Jewish District and easily reachable on foot. The vibe is a great mix of traditional Hungarian roots and modern retro chic. However, it is very noisy and loud inside - definitely not the place for a quiet conversation or a romantic first date. 🍛 Food & Drinks: Hortobágyi Pancake: Excellent appetizer; well-prepared, flavorful, and not dry at all. Veal Paprikash: Beautiful presentation and good flavors, but the meat itself was disappointing for a proper stew—some cubes were overcooked and dry, while others were chewy. Somlói Galuska: Closer to the original recipe than most places, though a bit too heavy on the custard. The whipped cream on top felt modified (likely with mascarpone), which didn't really fit the dessert. Iced Tea: Heads up - it is a berry fruit tea with added syrup, making it very sweet. Specify if you want a classic black iced tea. 🤵🏻♂️ Service: The hostess was very smiley and welcoming. The waiting staff were nice and not overwhelming, though a few of the older servers had a slightly "cheesy" style. At aroun

Our first night in Budapest and this meal really hit the spot. The restaurant had energy but we could easily hold a conversation without yelling. The staff was friendly and we never felt rushed, even though they were pretty busy. Our server guided us as we made our selections and each was excellent - Bone marrow & toast, Hungarian 'Hortobágyi' Pancakes, Hungarian Goulash Alföldi Style, Veal Paprikash with Sour Cream and Baked Curd Cheese Noodles Rolled in Bacon, cucumber and sour cream salad, and a surprisingly good Hungarian wine. We highly recommend a visit!

Properly good food, the kind that tastes homemade rather than dressed up for a restaurant. The bread was excellent and well worth sharing. I had the vegetarian stuffed paprika and really enjoyed it; my friend went for the rooster balls and was just as happy with his choice. A cosy, characterful spot in the Jewish Quarter, and we’d gladly come back.
