A must visit if you’re in Budapest - great Hungarian cuisine, vibrant atmosphere and wonderful service. There is a live pianist during dinnertime and the staff are very attentive. Try their beef goulash and their confitted beef steak with bread pudding. The place is quite large but is very popular so make an advance reservation for groups larger than two. There is a children’s play area with toys and other things to keep them occupied.

VakVarjú Étterem Pest is a cozy restaurant with a warm atmosphere, making it a great place to enjoy traditional Hungarian cuisine. I recommend making a reservation, as it can get quite busy. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality of the food makes it worthwhile. The goulash was authentic and flavorful, and the duck liver mousse was absolutely delicious. They also have a great selection of lemonades with unique flavors, which are refreshing and pair perfectly with the meal. Overall, it's a wonderful spot for anyone looking to experience classic Hungarian dishes in a comfortable setting.

This was our 1st experience to Budapest. From the moment we arrived at Val Varja, our experience was nothing short of exceptional. Martin was the star of the evening—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the cuisine, making us feel both welcomed and well cared for throughout the dinner. The food stood out in every course: each plate was a thoughtful celebration of flavors, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The dishes were delightful and scrumptious, balancing innovation with comforting elements in a way that kept surprising and delighting our palates. The wine pairings Martin recommended complemented the courses perfectly, enhancing the entire dining journey without overpowering the flavors. Service was impeccable—timely, unobtrusive, and paired with a warm, friendly demeanor that made the evening feel intimate yet lively. The ambiance of Val Varja complemented the meal beautifully, creating a memorable backdrop for an extraordinary dining experience.

We didn't book ahead; luckily, there was some availability when we turned up. We were seated promptly. The interior is charming, the service is faultless. This restaurant had the most amazing stuffed cabbage I've ever had since I was a child. My partner was very happy with his meals too—definitely a restaurant we will revisit.

Visited with my family at a busier time on Friday night and it was a bit loud but despite that our server was very kind and helpful and provided coloring pages and pencils for my sisters. The place itself is very beautiful the design and the idea of the place i found very intriguing and fun. The variety of the menu is great, as a vegan i had the falafel with ratatouille and sweet potato and it was so good! My family had a very nice meal here, it was a pleasant suprise visiting here.
