Near the end of Szechenyi chain bridge at Buda side. The ride is about one minute. $12.50 for one way or $15.50 for return. Good view of the Pest side of the city. Less expensive if you take Uber or Bolt especially if you have a few people.

The only functioning funicular in Budapest and more like a royalty. It’s a short 1-1.5 mins fun ride up to the Buda Castle. We did not have to pay for it since it was free with our Budapest card however had to queue up for the tickets. It’s a one time experience which is worthwhile only if you end up in the first cabin of the 3. The other two cabins have an obstructed view making it worth little less. The staff was friendly and efficient which meant the queue was quick and boarding efficiently. Nothing great except the vanity attached to riding the funicular.

May 2026 3.5* Used the Funicular in the night time and it was quite empty. The price is on higher side (HUF 4500 one side) and the view is okay. You did not get any spectacular view from the ride or may be it was dark. The ride is just 2 mins. You have more traffic during the day time. It is good experience (not must) If you are i. Budapest. Staff is fine but can give more clear instructions.

The attitude of the staff is absolutely awful. My son touched the chip and pin machine and a staff member said nothing and snatched it away like a child. They crammed another group into our carriage and spoiled the view. On the way down the staff made us prove we have 3 tickets and had an argument with another family. Real classy. The price is atrocious for what is 2 minutes each way costing £31.33 for 2x adults and 1x child. Zero engagement. Just sit in their little booths and scroll their phones. Not good. Just take the bus guys.

At £10 for 2 minutes, it feels a little steep for a short ride. That said, if you're doing it as part of the broader experience, make sure you get in the first cabin — it's the only one with proper windows and and a view. The middle and back cabins are enclosed, so you'll miss most of what makes it worthwhile.
